Nothin To Prove
Updated: Apr 26
I remember the first big worship event I led worship at when I had moved to the UK. I was a young-Aussie-blonde-Pentecostal-fireball in an unfamiliar context. It was my ‘debut’ (if you like), people were yet to know or trust me.Thank fully I was co-leading with a well trusted and respected worship leader. He must have felt my nervousness.
Before the session the band gathered to pray back stage. As we finished our prayers my co-leader turned to me and said, “You don’t have to prove yourself, Just get up there and be yourself... bring what you bring. God has anointed you.”
In that moment, my fear was disarmed. His simple encouragement re-assured my spirit.
It’s amazing how small comments can carry such weight.
To this day, when I am nervous or feeling unsure of myself as I stand upfront to lead people, I remember, I got nothin to prove...
And that is becauseGod loves me and approves of me. He has called me fro such a time as this. He has gifted me and filled me with His Holy Spirit.
You see, the approval of man is not the foundation of our confidence. Yes, it is important to win the respect and trust of the people you lead, but do that built on a foundation of the knowledge that God loves and approves of you first.
“We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life.”
2 Corinthians 3:4-6 NLT
So relax, enjoy who you are. Enjoy worshipping God in the confidence of His Spirit. X Nikki
